DirectX 6
Downloading Microsoft DirectX 6.0This distribution is for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows 98 only. It does not work on Windows NT. DirectX 6.0 will be included in the forthcoming release of Windows NT 5.0. In the interim, you can download SP3 service pack, which includes DirectX 3 for Windows NT 4.0. The DirectX installation process will require approximately 34MB of free space on your hard drive. After installation, the DirectX download will take approximately 7.5MB to 8MB of hard drive space. If you had an earlier version of DirectX installed on your system you will see little difference in available space on your hard drive since DirectX 6.0 will overwrite the earlier version. Download Instructions for Windows 98 Users: Microsoft Windows 98 users must use dx6core.exe (1.6MB). This is the only file that runs on Windows 98; it contains the core files for DirectX 6.0. No additional drivers are required. Dx6core.exe will work on all language versions of Windows 98. Download Instructions for Windows 95 Users: Most Windows 95 systems use display and audio drivers that are compatible with DirectX. For this reason, the core distribution file dx6core.exe (1.6MB) will work on most systems. However, if you have an older computer system and have not updated display and audio drivers you must download and run the language-specific DirectX 6.0 download file from the list below to install the new drivers (e.g., dx6eng.exe (3.8MB) for English-language users). If you cannot find the correct language listed below, use dx6eng.exe. |
